Happy President’s Day! In light of the holiday, we wanted to talk a little bit about the relationship between campaigning and marketing. If you really think about it, they’re ever-so-close to being one in the same. You need to create your “brand” (or your platform), your “logo and branding” (or the look of the pieces you’ll be putting out there) and a consistent message. Quality most certainly matters when getting your message across whether it’s a website, a social media campaign, a print piece, a video, or anything else you might be using to build awareness.
It’s key to put your best foot forward and stand out. Think about it – during an election year, how many commercials, palm cards, ads and posts do you see? Do you read or listen to every single one or do you choose the ones that really catch your eye/ear? You could be the best candidate out there, but if you can’t get your message out in a way that catches a person’s attention, no one will ever know enough about you for you to get elected. (It’s sad, but true.) Almost everything that political candidates do in a race for a political position, directly ties back to marketing, which is why many political candidates are now choosing marketing companies to help with their campaigns.
At Transformation Marketing in Lincoln, Nebraska, we have lent a hand in over 10 political campaigns, including one for U.S. Senate, one for the Nebraska Governor’s race and two for the Lincoln Mayoral seat as well as some local and state-wide political organizations. And although we do not work with many political campaigns these days, we know the importance good marketing plays into a political campaign and how crucial a good image is not only in both the political and business worlds.
