The Importance of Knowing Trends in Your Industry

Recently, I was getting my nails done at an out-of-state salon for a wedding. When they asked me what color I wanted, I said nude. The lady looked at me with a very confused expression, so I repeated myself. She said, “New color?” I said, “No. NUDE.” Finally the bride said, “Skin color.” Again, the lady looked at me with an expression of confusion as if to say, “Why on earth would you want that?” Now, the nude color trend is not new. I am typically a late adapter when it comes to fashion trends, yet this lady still was dumb-founded by my request.

Right away, my thought was, “This is what you do for a living and you don’t know the trends?” This would be like me not knowing the top social platform in my area or what design looks are trending right now. Our clients would seriously question our abilities. It made me realize just how important it is that we keep up with trends here at Transformation Marketing. But those aren’t the only trends we keep up with. We have to research trends for our clients as well so that whether we’re doing their social, blogs or just making sure we’re up on what all our clients are doing, we have a good feel for the industries we’re marketing.

If you’re a business owner, though, it’s not enough that your marketing company is up on the latest trends in your industry. You and your staff need to be informed as well. That way when someone comes in asking for the latest trend you can help point them in the right direction instead of looking at them like they’re an alien from outer space.
