Not only are puppies and dogs cute, but they can also be used to sell a product. Many people are drawn to dogs and like to see them in videos. What better way to connect your brand with your consumers than using puppies in a commercial?
The brand Hush Puppies uses their mascot a Basset Hound to gain brand awareness. In one commercial, they have their Basset Hound in a public place, on a leash tied to a sign that says GPS. When a consumer grabs on to the leash, the Basset Hound smells his way back to the store. The store then rewards the customer by giving them a coupon for their shoes. This is a very clever way to spread awareness and get people into your store. This was a smart move because they were able to turn this footage into a cute commercial showing surprised consumers what could happen when they took this dog for a walk.
Another brand now known widely for using dogs is Budweiser. They have used puppies in recent ads to show another side of their brand. Most people are used to vulgar beer ads that only reach specific consumers. These adorable commercials are meant to connect a broader audience to the brand.
In 2014, Budweiser presented a commercial during Super Bowl XLVIII that showed a puppy who befriended the Clydesdale horses. Throughout the ad the puppy is taken back to its owner, but the puppy continues to sneak his way to his Clydesdale friends. In the end the horses stop the puppy from leaving and bring it back with them. It is very cute and shows that the brand is more than just beer.
