A mobile website is basically a simplified version of your current website, designed specifically to be viewed from a mobile device. The purpose of having this secondary version of a website is easier navigation, enhanced viewing capability and easy accessibility for your tech-savvy, on-the-go clients of the 21st Century.
According to an article from the Denver Post, about 20% of U.S. Internet traffic today comes from mobile devices, but only 26% of small businesses have a mobile website. Experts say that mobile strategy is important for all businesses, not just the well-known social media and tech companies that dominate the mobile-app world.
The Denver Post also provided a few statistics on the importance of a mobile site:
-Of the 26% of small businesses that do have a mobile site, 84% reported growth stemming from their mobile presence (according to web.com)
-Google reports that 40% of mobile consumers turned to a competitor’s site after a bad mobile web experience and 57% wouldn’t recommend a business with a bad mobile site
-It is projected that 50% of web sales will be generated from social and mobile apps by 2015
It is also important to remember that even if you have a Facebook or Twitter page for your business, mobile users will not think to look up a menu or store hours via social. If you have a mobile site, this is where they will go for information. A mobile site is the next step for your company!
