Setting up an AdWords campaign is not easy. It takes a lot of time to come up with the hundreds if not thousands of keywords you need to advertise your products. But we’ve got a great shortcut that can make this process simple!
#1 — The Outline
First we have to create the framework of the campaign. For the best results, use the framework of your website to guide your keyword layout. Look at the menu layout of your website and use that as the campaigns and ad groups in your AdWords account. For example, if you sold men’s shoes online, then your website menu structure would look something like this:
Color, Size, Style, Material
Use those categories to guide you through the next steps.
#2 — The Setup
Use the tool at this keyword list generator to create thousands of keywords in just minutes. Sticking with the example above, let’s say we want to create keywords for our men’s shoes website. The first box would contain the different colors we have in our store. The next box would have the different sizes we have in our store. Next would be the styles and then materials. So it would look something like this:
Box 1: black,brown,blue,red,grey
Box 2: 5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12
Box 3: formal,running,hiking,casual
Box 4: leather,lightweight,durable
#3 — The Copy / Paste
After you’ve put all these words into the keyword generator you will get a huge list of keyword combinations. The next step is to copy and paste these into the outline you constructed in step one. You will want to create specific ad groups and campaigns that reflect a tight theme for each type of search. If you simply paste all of the keywords into one campaign then you will find very poor results because your ads are not specific enough to attract clicks for qualified buyers.
