If you’re a Chipotle connoisseur like I am, you’re already familiar with their Boorito fundraiser every Halloween. If you’re not, then let me break it down for you: $3 burritos, bowls, salads, and tacos. But you have to dress up! This year, Chipotle is adding a spooky new requirement, but have no fear, it’s still going to be just as easy to get your $3 boorito.
Just as chipotle doesn’t add any unnecessary, or unneces-scary ingredients to their food, you must add an unnecessary item to your costume to qualify for the boorito deal. The promotion is advertised in a 2-minute video that portrays Chipotle as Cheapotle, where they add preservatives, flavoring agents, and emulsifiers into the mix. The video then goes on to explain the fast food pyramid with cheap, fast, and good on each point. According to the Cheapotle employees, you can only have 2 of the 3 options on the pyramid. If you want cheap and good, it can’t be fast. If you want fast and good it can’t be cheap. If you want fast and cheap it won’t be good. You get the idea.
Massoya Lactone, Castoreum, Glutamic Acid, Benzaldehyde Propylene Glycol, Bisabolene, and Redaudioside A are just some of the ingredients identified in the clip that go into the Cheapotle burrito being made. If you have ever been to a Chipotle you know they don’t use preservatives or GMO’s per their in–store signs, however, their website gives a little more detail on what their mission is. A statement that struck me as well thought-out and considerate, it was definitely worth sharing:
“Day after day we’re committed to sourcing the very best ingredients we can find and preparing them by hand. To vegetables grown in healthy soil, and pork from pigs allowed to freely root and roam outdoors or in deeply bedded barns. We’re committed because we understand the connection between how food is raised and prepared, and how it tastes. We do it for farmers, animals, the environment, dentists, crane operators, ribbon dancers, magicians, cartographers, and you. With every burrito we roll or bowl we fill, we’re working to cultivate a better world. “
So what will you be wearing to Chipotle to go get your $3 burrito on Halloween? Will you be a super hero with an iPad? How about a ballerina with a cowgirl hat on? Maybe a mermaid with a fishing pole? As for me, I’m going to be Minnie mouse with a lei.
