5 Essential Time Management Skills

Time Management ChalkboardHaving time management skills is not just one single skill – it takes practice and it also takes some trial and error to find what technique works best for you! Here are some tips for keeping your life less chaotic:

1. Set Goals:

This is the most important tip because it keeps you focused. It’s important to have daily, short term, and long-term goals. This makes it easier to knock them out one by one and feel accomplished when your goals are complete!

2. Schedule tasks:

Carry a planner or notebook with you and list all the tasks that come to your mind. Simply make a To Do list before starting the day and prioritize the tasks. Make sure the tasks are manageable. If you have a big task at hand, break it down into smaller tasks so it’s easier to accomplish. To better organize your time management skills, try making 3 lists: work, home, and personal.

3. Set deadlines:

When you have a task, set a realistic deadline and stick to it. Set a deadline few days before the task is due – that way, if something unexpected comes up, you’re not automatically put into panic mode.

4. Avoid multitasking:

WHAT?!?!?! Avoid multitasking? Yep! It is common to think multitasking is a great way of getting things done faster but, in all reality, we tend to do better when we focus and concentrate on one thing.

5. Start early:

Did you know most of the successful men and women have one thing in common? They start their day early! This tactic is utilized because it’s one that allows them time to plan their day. Plus, when you get up early, you are more calm and creative. As the day goes on, your energy levels decline which affects your productivity and you may not perform to the top of your abilities.
