Everyone has their phobias and it just so happens that 3 of the 5 of us in the office really dislike spiders. So on Friday, when Travis walked into the studio and saw the lovely pest below, you can only imagine the pandemonium that broke loose. The reactions were all across the board, resulting in a very interesting morning.
I (Melissa) instantly ran for my camera, because we HAD to get this on record. It is by far the biggest spider I’ve seen, so I felt I had to remember it. I’m not really sure why I had this reaction, because I am one of the 3 that does not like spiders. However, this guy was fairly motionless, so I had scrounged up enough courage to inch towards it at a snails pace in order to get a good picture. But not before Travis had to retrieve the comparison items. He wasn’t scared of this beast at all, so he had no problem walking right up to it and setting up our props for showing how big this thing really was.
Along with Travis was Shannon, who basically just laughed and waved it off as no big deal (she was much more intrigued by the baby snapping turtle that I had discovered on the road earlier in the morning). But then there was Christina and Lacy. We didn’t hear much from Christina and it turns out that that was because she had holed up in the sound booth adjacent to the studio so that she could SEE the spider but knew that there’s no way he could actually get to her. We easily determined who has the strongest phobia as Lacy sprinted to her office and slammed the door, refusing to come out until the spider was out of the building and disposed of. At which point we then decided to collect ourselves and use this opportunity for a photo shoot! Not even that huge spider could interrupt our creativity!
