Water Cooler Chat – Little Known Facts

Shannon's Young Author Certificate

Image

This week, I asked the team at Transformation Marketing to give me some little known facts about themselves and I’m glad I did. We got to take some great trips down memory lane and learned a lot about each other! Take a look at some of our talents, achievements and crazy quirks and we hope you learn a lot as well!

Shannon, Author and Marksman… er… Marks”woman”

In grade school, although her fashion sense was questionable back then, Shannon was selected as an outstanding young author with the piece she wrote entitled “My Grandpa”. She was awarded with the certificate show here.

Now, while you may know Shannon is an excellent writer, as it shows in the scripts she has written for many of our clients, what you may not know is that she is also excellent at riflery. The same year she won her Outstanding Young Author award, she also won first place in the morning group of riflery at Timberlake Ranch Camps. Just another reminder not to get on Shannon’s bad side.

It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane… It’s Travis!
Travis decided at a young age that he was going to be a pilot. Only problem… When he was taken up in the plane on a test flight, he got sick. The gentleman driving said, “It’s not for everyone.” But Travis insisted, “We’re going up again.” And he did just that until he no longer was getting sick. When he was 22, Travis received his pilot’s license and took to the air! Although Travis no longer flies planes, we still think that his head sometimes drifts back up to those clouds!

Lacy with her Champion Hog and her Guitar
During Grade School through High School, I was in 4-H, a program that helps to pass skills from one generation to the next. It includes raising animals, sewing, cooking, photography, art, crafts and much more. When I was younger I showed cattle (I was 8 and the calf was quite a bit taller than me) but in High School, I showed market swine (I liked them better because I could actually see over them… I’m still very short for those of you who’ve never met me) but boy could I pick a hog! The summer after my Junior Year the hog my dad and I and chosen to take to the fair won Grand Champion Market Swine at the Buffalo County Fair!

Another slightly more known fact about me is that I’m a singer/songwriter. I’ve been singing since I could talk (so my mother says) and been writing songs since I was a little girl. When I was in high school I played at cafes around my home town and went by Lacy Jo, which is why I continue to go by Lacy Jo Marshall to this day.

Lee’s Record Setting Discus Throw and Buffalo Art Collection
Lee went to college (a LONG time ago), on a Track Scholarship. Not only did he throw discus, but he threw record-setting discus. The photo shown is from his Junior year of college, but his senior year, he set the record when he threw the discus (that he still has to this day, by the way) over 186 feet at the Ohio State Championship Track Meet, winning the discus throw for his team.

Lee also collects Buffalo Art. This may seem like a small fact and it may be except that he owns over 200 pieces of this Buffalo art. He gave us a little sneak peek of his collection to share with you.

Christina the Centennial Baby and the Tap Dancer
During this week, a photo (shown) of Christina in her tap dance getup surfaced here in the office (for those who don’t know, Christina is Shannon’s little sister and every once in a while, that comes through in their relationship here at the office). She looked so adorable in her little outfit that I had to ask, “Can you still do it?” Her answer, “I still know some steps.” And she does! She showed us, and the man installing our new server, the Buffalo and the Grape Vine.

Christina’s real claim to fame, though, is that she is the Centennial Baby of the big village of Panama, Nebraska! Her family got a spot in the Centennial parade to show off the baby that marked the occasion!

April… Well, just don’t insult her family.
April says that she has no photographic evidence of said event due to her super stellar ninja like skilz (and the fact that Polaroid cameras {which is what all the cool moms had at the time} are not known for their ability to take action shots that resemble anything even remotely “actiony”). But her talent was acquired at the tender age of 6 when she decked a fellow Brownie {square in the nose} for insulting her mom’s Rice Krispie bars. Since this happened at one of her first meetings, she does not even have a photo of her with her brownie uniform. So, she gave us a more recent one with her sash that she still has to remember the moment by! April says, “From what I remember, there was some hair pulling as well. I believe I was dismissed (discharged? disbarred?? excommunicated???) from our Brownie troupe at that point in time. My mom may be gone, but her memory sure lives on in that girls’ deviated septum.”

April also played the flute and piccolo from age nine through college and played varsity tennis in high school. One thing we find very funny here, however, is that she is deathly afraid of birds.

Casey is a Fantasy Football Champ!
For the past couple of years, Casey has been playing in a Fantasy Football league against 10 guys and one other gal. She named her team Brees in the Trap because she loves the New Orleans Saints and Drew Brees and “Beez in the Trap” by Nicki Minaj was one of her favorite songs at the beginning of last season. Last year, she won her Fantasy Football League Championship. The photo she’s shared with us is a screen shot of the score of her final game where she beat one of her finace’s friends who is a big sports guy. So, it’s safe to say that we won’t be inviting Casey to participate in any sports related brackets or fantasy leagues here at the office!

So there you have it, folks! The 411 on what you may not have known about our incredible staff! We hope you have enjoyed it as much as we did! We are always eager to learn more about our clients as well, so feel free to leave a little known fact about yourself in the comment box!
