My First Job & What I Learned – James Chramosta

I’ve had a weird line of previous jobs. It wasn’t until I started at Transformation Marketing, that I had gotten a job through the traditional path: submitting a resume and interviewing. In one-way or another, I had always fallen backwards into all my previous jobs.

So when I was tasked with writing about my “first job,” I wasn’t really sure what that was. So I, like a lot of uncreative best men and maids of honor, went to the dictionary to look up the definition of, “first.”

“Webster’s Dictionary defines…” just kidding, I used the free dictionary app on my smart phone, and I found this, “coming before all other in time or order; earliest;” The entry for job is “a task or piece of work.” Well, I suppose if I were to be literal, my first job was to get out of my mom and breathe… based on my status of “alive” and lack of mom around me, I think I put in a fantastic effort at my first job.

Now, what did I learn from this experience? I guess I can’t really say for sure… seeing as how I was a baby. But this does give me the chance to bring up one of my favorite quotes from real estate developer and frozen banana stand entrepreneur, Michael Bluth: “Just keep your head down and power through.” I think of this quote a lot when faced with a tough obstacle. Whether it is work related or a personal matter, as long as I can see that I’m making progress – even if it seems minute – I will keep pushing forward.
