Seriously, those of us here at TM wouldn’t have it any other way. It might seem overwhelmingly chaotic to some, but for the folks who work in the offices that line our halls it’s anything but. In fact, it’s not uncommon for various departments to flip from hamburgers (ha! Get it? Flip hamburgers??? Anyhow…) to beauty products to plastic and reconstructive surgery procedures to custom made gas pump replicas…honestly, the list goes on and on. And, if it’s campaign time, we might toss in a few political posts and blogs and videos and what not, just for good measure.
The big question, though, is how are we able to do it in a way that seems so effortless and easy? Well, to start with, we work REALLY HARD at it! And, it’s most assuredly NOT a singular endeavor. We spend a lot of time collaborating and bouncing ideas off one another, which is just one of the many perks of having such a tight knit crew within our walls.
And then, of course, there’s the research. Lots and LOTS of research. For instance:
We research our clients – We find out who they are. And, not just in an on paper, “fill out this survey” kind of way (although we do that, too). We meet with them. We get to know them. We find out their likes and dislikes as well as their sense of humor. Because, in the end, we want to make sure the personality of our each and every one of our clients shines through in their marketing campaign – we want everyone their campaign touches to know them just like we do.
We research our clients’ products and industry – We also spend a fair (and by “fair” I mean “a lot”) amount of time researching our clients’ products and industry. It makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever – and, honestly, is a huge disservice to our clients – to take an “off the cuff” approach towards the marketing of their product(s)/service(s). To be able to create meaningful, informative, “meaty” content, it’s imperative that we have a deep understanding of what it is that our clients do – the products they sell and the services they provide – so that when we’re creating said content (regardless of the medium, be it radio, TV, blogs, social media posts, etc) we can do so with confidence, knowledge, and authority.
We research our clients’ customers – It’s tough to market a product or service if you don’t know who the target audience really is – especially if it’s a niche market. That involves looking at – and beyond – the demographics…to really be successful, we work hard to develop a deep understanding of the attributes held by the target market of each and every client and then work up and out from there.
We research our clients’ competitors – Regardless of the business or market, it’s vital to keep tabs on the competitors. Now, we’re not talking about corporate espionage here – more like following competitors on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest), subscribing to industry newsletters and online resources, scoping out websites, etc. That way, we can devise strategies to make our clients stand out from the crowd!
And, we research which marketing tools would work best for them – For some, it’s TV and radio. For others, it’s social media, blogs, or a combination of any number of items. This is just another one of the ways that sets us apart from the rest…and helps us set our clients apart from their competition, too!
