But, if you look closely – or sometimes even not so closely – you’ll notice that the “examples” provided are to their corresponding templates what the Hulk is to Bruce Banner…an amped-up version that, in no way, shape, or form, resembles what it was born from. Something that the average layperson (in regards to web design) doesn’t have a hope or a prayer of emulating.
This, of course, leads to the inevitable question: How is that possible?
Well, because the examples provided are something that has been created by a professional that was based off that particular templates’ design. A professional who has years of education and experiences under his or her belt that allows for such stunning work to be produced. It’s also a product of countless hours of work on behalf of said professional.
Does this mean that those companies are lying to you? Well, no, not technically. You can pick a template and build your own website – there’s no denying that. But, if you’re looking to create something that’s truly one-of-a-kind…something that gets you noticed (in a good way)…an end product that others look at and long for…then going down the “design it myself” route may not be the best thing for you.
Now, if you:
· Have more time than money (as in LOTS more time than money)
· Possess phenomenal computer skills
· Have a sincere interest in learning ALL about web design and web marketing (Design, Programming, SEO, SERP, PPC, SEM, etc)
· Are a wiz with professional-level photo editing software
· Can do an amazing job of writing content for your site (content that will be SEO-friendly)
· Have a firm knowledge and understanding of how search engines work
· Love doing research (TONS of research) on the web
· Are an incredible designer
· Know HTML, PHP, and JAVA
· Have a firm grasp of who, exactly, your target market is AND know the best ways to reach them AND know how that target market will be searching for your products
· Have lots of time (I know I already mentioned time but, trust me, you’re going to need more)
· Have such an amazingly unique, “can’t-live-without” product that people will be beating down your door but even if you DON’T have an online store
If all of the above is true, then designing your own website might be just the thing for you!
